Rebates
Every incentive, by state and city.
Federal certificates stack with state schemes differently in every state. These guides lay it out, with a date on each so you know how fresh it is.
States and territories
Australian Capital Territory
The ACT's main household program is the Sustainable Household Scheme, which finances batteries, hot water heat pumps and other upgrades through loans rather than rebates. Solar and batteries also earn the federal STC and Cheaper Home Batteries discounts. Loan terms have changed over time, so check the scheme before quoting.
NSWNew South Wales
NSW has no state solar panel rebate. Support comes from the federal STC discount, the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program, and two state certificate schemes: the Energy Savings Scheme and the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme, which now carries an incentive for connecting a battery to a virtual power plant.
NTNorthern Territory
The Northern Territory has no open state rebate for solar or batteries at the time of writing. The Home and Business Battery Scheme closed in 2025 after its funding was used. Territorians rely on federal STCs, which are worth more here because Alice Springs sits in zone 1 and Darwin in zone 2, the two highest-rated bands, and the Cheaper Home Batteries Program.
QLDQueensland
Queensland has no live state solar or battery rebate at the time of writing. The Battery Booster closed to new applications in 2024, so households rely on the federal STC discount for solar and the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program for batteries. Hot water support should be checked against the Queensland Government's current offers.
SASouth Australia
South Australia's old Home Battery Scheme closed in 2022. Today households use the federal STC discount for solar, the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program for batteries, and the Retailer Energy Productivity Scheme (REPS), which pays incentives for VPP-connected batteries and supports heat pump hot water.
TASTasmania
Tasmania has no state solar or battery rebate at the time of writing. Households rely on the federal STC discount for solar and the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program for batteries. The state's Energy Saver Loan Scheme closed in September 2025, and the regulated feed-in tariff is the main state-level lever.
VICVictoria
Victoria stacks three layers of support: the federal STC discount on solar, the federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount, and state schemes run through Solar Victoria and the Victorian Energy Upgrades program. At the time of writing the Solar Victoria income cap is $150,000 a year, and the old state battery loan is closed.
WAWestern Australia
Western Australia has a live state battery program, the WA Residential Battery Scheme launched on 1 July 2025, which pays a rebate and offers loans on top of the federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount. Solar and hot water rely on the federal STC discount, as WA has no separate state panel or hot water rebate at the time of writing.
