Solar rebate in Brisbane

Brisbane’s solar rebate is the federal STC discount. The city sits in zone 3 (1.382), so a 6.6 kW system with the 5-year deeming period for 2026 installs earns around 45 certificates, roughly $1,700 to $1,800 at the $38 to $40 spot range at the time of writing. Brisbane has among the highest rooftop solar uptake in the country, so installers see competition on price and speed. The state-wide picture, including the closed Battery Booster, is on the Queensland page.

Battery rebate in Brisbane

With the Battery Booster closed since 2024, Brisbane homes rely on the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program. That means CEC-approved, VPP-capable batteries from 5 to 100 kWh usable, up to 50 kWh eligible, one per property, new or existing solar. The STC factor is 6.8 per kWh for 2026 installs and steps down to 5.7 on 1 January 2027 and 5.2 on 1 July 2027, with a reduced rate above 14 kWh since 1 May 2026. Because Brisbane evenings are hot and air-conditioning-driven, a 10 to 13 kWh battery covers most households. Read the battery STC pillar and the installer guide.

Energex, export limits and storm season

Almost all of Brisbane is on Energex. It sets export limits and connection requirements, and many streets have saturated feeders where full export is restricted. That constraint is one reason batteries sell well here: they soak up what the network would otherwise curtail. Brisbane’s storm season brings hail and high winds between October and March, so panel ratings, mounting quality and good photo evidence of the installation are worth the extra minute. A hail-damaged system will also generate an insurance claim, and clear installation records help.

Roofs and typical systems

Brisbane’s housing mix includes Queenslander timber homes with corrugated iron roofs, brick-and-tile suburban houses and apartments. Corrugated iron suits tin-roof clamps and is quick to install, while concrete tile roofs need tile hooks and more care. Typical systems are 6.6 kW to 13 kW, because high air-conditioning load makes larger arrays pay back well, usually with a 5 kW or larger inverter within Energex limits. Strata buildings need owners corporation consent for panels on common roof.

Council and local programs

We found no Brisbane City Council rebate on rooftop solar or batteries that we could confirm at the time of writing. Customers should ask whether the council or their retailer is running a current offer, and installers should not promise a local amount without evidence. Feed-in tariffs differ between retailers and are often a bigger payback lever than any rebate.

From the desk: In Brisbane the money is almost all federal, so the certificate payment is the biggest cash item on the invoice. High-volume crews do not want to wait ten business days for it. Look for a desk that locks the rate on lodgement and pays in 24 hours for established partners, and that has a named person you can call about a rejected claim. See /pricing/.

STC trader in Brisbane: what to compare

Searching for an STC trader in Brisbane gives plenty of choices, but location is irrelevant because claims are lodged and sold online. Compare the published rate, rate lock, fees and settlement time. The certificate trader checklist lists the questions, and how long STC payment should take gives a benchmark. You can start trading when you are ready. For related areas see the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast pages, and for the mechanism the STC trading pillar.

Timing a Brisbane job

Because Brisbane is a high-volume market, the practical question for installers is how long the money takes to arrive. The customer pays the invoice less the STC discount, so the installer is out of pocket for the certificate value until the trader pays. On a 6.6 kW system that is the better part of two thousand dollars, and on a battery job it is more. Multiply by a crew doing several installs a week and the float adds up quickly.

Customers weighing this year against next should also know the discount shrinks. The solar deeming period steps down to 4 years in 2027, and the battery STC factor falls from 6.8 to 5.7 per kWh on 1 January 2027 and to 5.2 on 1 July 2027. Brisbane buyers who are on the fence usually find that clear numbers on a quote do more than any urgency. The January 2027 explainer and what an STC is worth help with both conversations.

Questions

Brisbane questions, answered

What is the solar rebate in Brisbane in 2026?
Brisbane's solar rebate is the federal STC discount. The city sits in zone 3, so a 6.6 kW system earns around 45 certificates under the 5-year deeming period for 2026 installs. Queensland runs no panel rebate at the time of writing.
Is there a battery rebate in Brisbane in 2026?
Yes, the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program, roughly 30% off at launch, for a CEC-approved, VPP-capable battery installed by an accredited installer. The state Battery Booster closed in 2024 and has not been replaced.
Who is the STC trader in Brisbane for installers?
Certificates trade online, so a Brisbane address is not needed. Compare published rates, whether the rate locks on lodgement, fees and settlement time. Energy Merchants publishes its rate on the pricing page.
Does the Brisbane battery discount depend on my solar system?
No. The battery can be added to new or existing solar, but it must be CEC-approved and VPP-capable, and the installer must be accredited. Only one battery per property qualifies.
