Solar and battery rebates in Alice Springs: what you can claim in 2026
Alice Springs households use the federal STC discount at zone 1, the highest rating in the country, and the federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount, since the NT Home and Business Battery Scheme closed in 2025. Power and Water runs the network, and extreme heat, dust and remote logistics shape installs.

Solar rebate in Alice Springs
Alice Springs is the best-rated postcode in the country for STCs. Zone 1 carries a rating of 1.622, so the same 6.6 kW system earns more certificates here than in Darwin, Brisbane or Sydney, and a lot more than in Tasmania.
Alice Springs (postcode 0870) is in STC zone 1, rated 1.622. Under the 5-year deeming period for 2026 installs, a 6.6 kW system earns 53 certificates (6.6 x 1.622 x 5, rounded down). At the roughly $38 to $40 spot range at the time of writing that is about $2,014 to $2,120 before any trader’s rate, and the deeming period falls to 4 years in 2027 and 1 year in 2030, with the scheme ending on 31 December 2030. Run your own size and postcode through the STC calculator, and confirm the zone for each street, since a few postcodes in central Australia sit in different bands.
Battery rebate in Alice Springs
The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program covers CEC-approved, VPP-capable batteries from 5 to 100 kWh usable, with up to 50 kWh eligible, one per property, on new or existing solar. The STC factor is 6.8 per kWh at the time of writing, stepping down to 5.7 on 1 January 2027 and 5.2 on 1 July 2027. Since 1 May 2026 the first 14 kWh earns 100% of the factor, 14 to 28 kWh earns 60% and 28 to 50 kWh earns 15%, so a 10 kWh battery earns 68 certificates and a bigger battery earns less per extra kilowatt-hour. The NT battery grant has closed, so the federal discount is the only battery incentive open at the time of writing. Use the battery STC calculator and the battery STC pillar for the maths and the evidence rules.
What the Northern Territory adds
The Northern Territory has no open state rebate for solar or batteries at the time of writing. The Home and Business Battery Scheme, reported at $400 per usable kWh up to a $12,000 cap, closed in 2025 once its funding was committed, and we found no replacement. A quote that still lists that grant is out of date. The Northern Territory page has the state detail. Federal STCs apply to eligible heat pump hot water. See the hot water STC page.
Network, export and approvals
Power and Water Corporation is the retailer and network operator in most of the Northern Territory, and Alice Springs is on its own isolated grid rather than a national one. Third-party sources report that Power and Water often applies lower export limits than the mainland standard because of the small grid, but we could not confirm the current Alice Springs limit, so check the connection requirements with Power and Water before sizing or quoting.
Climate, roofs and typical systems
Alice Springs has a desert climate: very hot summers that often pass 40 degrees, cold winter nights with frost and very low rainfall. Sunshine hours are among the highest in the country, so annual yield is excellent, though extreme heat trims output on the hottest afternoons and ventilated mounting matters. Red dust settles on panels, so cleaning is part of maintenance. Housing includes brick and steel-frame homes, with large roofs and few shading issues. Typical systems run 6.6 kW to 10 kW, and Alice’s isolation makes backup attractive. Freight to Central Australia adds days and cost to parts, so confirm availability before promising a date, and note that the federal battery program requires a VPP-capable battery, a market that is smaller in the Territory.
Local and council programs
We did not find an Alice Springs Town Council rebate on solar or batteries that we could confirm at the time of writing. Check the council and NT Government energy pages, and do not promise a local amount without evidence.
From the desk: Remote crews pay for freight and travel up front, and a ten business day wait on STC cash puts the next job on your own card. A desk that publishes its rate daily, locks it on lodgement and settles in 24 hours for established partners helps. See /pricing/ and start trading.
Timing a job in Alice Springs
The solar deeming period falls to 4 years in 2027 and the battery factor from 6.8 to 5.7 on 1 January 2027. Zone 1 certificates are the most valuable per kilowatt, so a 2026 install in Alice is especially worth locking in. The January 2027 explainer covers what changes, and the installer guide to the battery program covers the paperwork. For the mechanism behind certificates, see the STC trading pillar, and for the wider picture start at the rebates hub.
