Solar rebates in Geelong: what you can claim in 2026
Geelong households can combine the federal STC discount, the federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount, a Solar Victoria rebate if household income is at or under $150,000, and VEEC discounts on hot water upgrades. Powercor runs the network, and coastal wind and salt air shape installation.

Solar rebate in Geelong
Geelong’s solar rebate has two parts. The federal STC discount comes from system size, the postcode’s zone rating and the deeming period, which is 5 years for 2026 installs. Geelong is in the mid zone band alongside Melbourne (rated 1.382, but check the postcode), so a 6.6 kW system earns around 45 certificates, roughly $1,700 to $1,800 at the $38 to $40 spot range at the time of writing. The second part is the Solar Victoria rebate, open to households at or under the $150,000 income cap, which fell from $210,000 on 1 July 2026. For state rules and VEECs, see the Victoria page, and for the capital, the Melbourne page.
Battery rebate in Geelong
Victoria’s own battery loan has closed, so Geelong households use the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program: CEC-approved, VPP-capable batteries from 5 to 100 kWh usable, up to 50 kWh eligible, one per property, new or existing solar. The STC factor is 6.8 per kWh for 2026 installs and steps down to 5.7 on 1 January 2027 and 5.2 on 1 July 2027, with a reduced rate above 14 kWh since 1 May 2026. See the battery STC pillar.
Powercor, regional feeders and export
Powercor is the distributor for Geelong and the Surf Coast. Regional feeders can have tighter export limits and slower approvals than inner Melbourne, so installers should check requirements before quoting and allow for approval time in the schedule. Growth in the Armstrong Creek and Torquay areas has put pressure on some parts of the network.
Roofs, climate and typical systems
Geelong has a cool, windy, maritime climate, with less rain than Melbourne but strong coastal wind from Bass Strait and the Bellarine Peninsula. Housing ranges from weatherboard and Federation homes near the waterfront to large new-estate houses with big, unshaded roofs. Salt air affects suburbs near the bay, so corrosion-rated mounting helps. Typical systems run 6.6 kW to 10 kW, often with a battery in new estates where customers want to cover evening use. Heritage overlays can restrict street-facing panels in older areas.
Hot water and VEECs
As elsewhere in Victoria, a Geelong heat pump can earn federal STCs, VEECs and, for eligible households, a Solar Victoria hot water rebate. VEEC spot has been roughly $85 to $95 in 2026. See VEECs and STCs on the same job and the VEEC trading page.
Council and local programs
We found no Geelong council rebate on solar or batteries that we could confirm at the time of writing. Ask the customer whether the council or a community program is currently offering anything, and do not promise a local amount without evidence.
From the desk: Geelong installers often run Melbourne and regional jobs in parallel, with Solar Victoria approvals, VEECs and STCs on the same invoice. A desk that pre-checks every claim before lodgement, publishes its rate daily and settles in 24 hours for established partners keeps the cash moving while approvals catch up. See /pricing/ and how it works.
STC trading for Geelong installers
Certificates are lodged and sold online, so a Geelong installer can use any trader. Compare the published rate, rate lock, fees and settlement time. The certificate trader checklist and photo requirements help, and you can start trading when ready. For the mechanism, see the STC trading pillar.
Timing a Geelong job
Customers weighing this year against next should know the discount shrinks: the solar deeming period steps down to 4 years in 2027, and the battery STC factor falls from 6.8 to 5.7 on 1 January 2027 and to 5.2 on 1 July 2027. The January 2027 explainer covers it. Confirm Solar Victoria eligibility before the customer signs, since the income cap now sits at $150,000.
What a good Geelong quote shows
A clear quote separates each layer: the STC count and its value, the Solar Victoria rebate and the income and property tests behind it, any VEEC discount on hot water, the battery’s federal discount, the Powercor export limit and the wind-rated mounting. Because the income cap fell on 1 July 2026, customers who qualified last year may no longer qualify, so say so early. Installers who confirm eligibility before signing avoid the awkward conversation that follows a rejected rebate application.
