Solar and battery rebates in Adelaide: what you can claim in 2026
Adelaide households get the federal STC discount on solar, the federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount, and a REPS incentive when a battery joins an approved virtual power plant. The old SA Home Battery Scheme closed in 2022. SA Power Networks is the distributor, and export limits shape system design.

Solar rebate in Adelaide
Adelaide’s solar rebate is the federal STC discount. The city sits in zone 3 (1.382), so a 6.6 kW system with the 5-year deeming period for 2026 installs earns around 45 certificates, roughly $1,700 to $1,800 at the $38 to $40 spot range at the time of writing. Adelaide has one of the highest rooftop solar uptake rates in the world, so customers are well informed and often already have a system. The state-wide detail on REPS is on the South Australia page.
Battery rebate in Adelaide
The SA Home Battery Scheme closed to new applications in 2022. Adelaide households now use the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program, and may add a REPS incentive if the battery joins an approved VPP. The federal discount covers CEC-approved, VPP-capable batteries from 5 to 100 kWh usable, up to 50 kWh eligible, one per property, new or existing solar. The STC factor is 6.8 per kWh for 2026 installs and steps down to 5.7 on 1 January 2027 and 5.2 on 1 July 2027, with a reduced rate above 14 kWh since 1 May 2026. Many Adelaide homes already have solar, so battery retrofits are the main growth area. See the battery STC pillar.
SA Power Networks and export limits
SA Power Networks is the distributor across Adelaide and the state. Midday export is often constrained, and flexible export arrangements let the network vary what a home can send out. For installers that means the customer’s expectation of exporting a big system’s full output may not be met. A battery, which stores what would be curtailed, can fix that, and it is one reason SA is such a strong battery market. Check current connection rules before sizing.
Roofs, climate and typical systems
Adelaide has a Mediterranean climate: hot dry summers, mild wet winters and excellent solar yield. Roofs are mostly tile or Colorbond on brick homes, with plenty of north-facing space in the newer suburbs, while older inner suburbs have smaller, shaded or heritage-listed roofs. Typical systems are 6.6 kW to 10 kW, often with a 5 kW inverter, and many customers add a 10 to 13 kWh battery. Summer heat reduces panel output at the hottest times, so quality mounting and ventilation matter.
Council and local programs
We found no Adelaide council rebate on solar or batteries that we could confirm at the time of writing. State support runs through REPS, and some councils offer community energy initiatives, so ask the customer whether one is available and get it in writing.
From the desk: Adelaide installers have done more retrofit batteries than anyone, and the jobs are detail-heavy: serial numbers, VPP enrolment, REPS evidence and the STC claim. A desk that pre-checks every claim before lodgement catches the small errors that cause a rejection weeks later. Pair that with a published rate and 24-hour settlement for established partners, and the float stays manageable. See /pricing/.
STC trader in Adelaide: what to compare
An STC trader in Adelaide does not need an Adelaide office. Compare the published rate, rate lock on lodgement, fees and settlement time. The certificate trader checklist lists the questions, the battery submission guide covers battery claims, and you can start trading when ready. For the mechanism, read the STC trading pillar, and for timing, how long STC payment should take.
Timing an Adelaide job
For installers, the cash question is the gap between the customer’s invoice and the certificate payment. Customers weighing this year against next should also know the discount shrinks: the solar deeming period steps down to 4 years in 2027, and the battery STC factor falls from 6.8 to 5.7 on 1 January 2027 and to 5.2 on 1 July 2027. The January 2027 explainer covers it.
What a good Adelaide quote shows
Because so many Adelaide customers already have solar, the best quotes are clear about what changes. For a battery retrofit they show the usable capacity, the federal discount it earns, any REPS incentive tied to VPP enrolment, and what happens to the existing system’s export. For a new system they show the STC count and its value, the inverter size against the network’s export limit, and the payback assumptions. Customers in SA are used to scrutinising quotes, and they respond well to itemised numbers rather than a single headline rebate.
