Solar rebates on the Sunshine Coast: what you can claim in 2026

Sunshine Coast households get the federal STC discount on solar and the federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount on batteries. The Queensland Battery Booster closed in 2024 and there is no state panel rebate at the time of writing. Energex is the network, and many properties are large, with hinterland and acreage options.

Solar rebate on the Sunshine Coast

The Sunshine Coast’s solar rebate is the federal STC discount. The region sits in the mid zone band alongside Brisbane (rated 1.382, but check the postcode), so a 6.6 kW system with the 5-year deeming period for 2026 installs earns around 45 certificates, roughly $1,700 to $1,800 at the $38 to $40 spot range at the time of writing. The deeming period falls to 4 years in 2027 and 1 year in 2030. For state-wide detail, see the Queensland page, and for the capital, the Brisbane page.

Battery rebate on the Sunshine Coast

The Battery Booster closed in 2024, so Sunshine Coast homes use the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program: CEC-approved, VPP-capable batteries from 5 to 100 kWh usable, up to 50 kWh eligible, one per property, new or existing solar. The STC factor is 6.8 per kWh for 2026 installs and steps down to 5.7 on 1 January 2027 and 5.2 on 1 July 2027, with a reduced rate above 14 kWh since 1 May 2026. Many coast and hinterland homes want backup power during storms, which makes a battery attractive. See the battery STC pillar.

Energex, the hinterland and storms

Energex serves the Sunshine Coast, from Caloundra to Noosa and the hinterland towns. Rural and hinterland feeders can have tighter export limits and slower approvals than coastal suburbs, so check before quoting. Storm season runs from October to March, with hail, wind and occasional extended outages in the hinterland, which is one reason batteries with backup capability sell well.

Roofs, climate and typical systems

The Sunshine Coast has a humid subtropical climate with strong sun, summer storms and salt air near the beaches. Housing ranges from beachfront homes and canal estates to Queenslanders, new-estate houses and acreage properties. Larger roofs and high air-conditioning use mean typical systems run 6.6 kW to 13 kW, often with a 10 to 13 kWh battery. Acreage properties may add a ground-mount system or a second array, which brings its own approval and evidence rules. Corrosion-rated mounting suits coastal suburbs.

Council and local programs

The Sunshine Coast Council has invested in its own solar farm, but we could not confirm a household rebate on rooftop solar or batteries at the time of writing. Customers should ask the council about current offers, and installers should not promise a local amount without evidence.

From the desk: Coast and hinterland jobs mean travel, larger systems and storm-driven demand spikes, so installers carry more discount for longer. A desk that locks the rate on lodgement and settles in 24 hours for established partners, with a named account manager you can call when a claim is queried, keeps the float short. See /pricing/ and how it works.

STC trading for Sunshine Coast installers

Certificates are lodged and sold online, so a Sunshine Coast installer can use any trader. Compare the published rate, rate lock, fees and settlement time. The certificate trader checklist, the installation type guide and the photo requirements help, and you can start trading when ready. For the mechanism, see the STC trading pillar.

Timing a Sunshine Coast job

Customers weighing this year against next should know the discount shrinks: the solar deeming period steps down to 4 years in 2027, and the battery STC factor falls from 6.8 to 5.7 on 1 January 2027 and to 5.2 on 1 July 2027. The January 2027 explainer covers it, and a clear quote with each line itemised helps customers decide.

What a good Sunshine Coast quote shows

A clear quote shows the STC count and the value credited, the zone for the postcode, the panel and inverter ratings, the mounting hardware for a coastal environment, the Energex export limit and, for a battery, the usable capacity, the federal discount and whether it supports backup. Because the state battery rebate has closed, any quote still listing a Battery Booster amount is out of date. For acreage and ground-mount systems, the quote should state the installation type and how it will be recorded in the claim, since additions and new systems are treated differently. Customers on the hinterland feeders should be told early if export will be limited, so the battery decision is made with the right expectations.
