Solar and battery rebates in Perth: what you can claim in 2026
Perth households get the federal STC discount on solar, the federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount, and, for eligible homes, the WA Residential Battery Scheme that launched on 1 July 2025. Western Power runs the network and Synergy is the main retailer. Check the state scheme for current amounts and funding.

Solar rebate in Perth
Perth’s solar rebate is the federal STC discount. The city sits in zone 3 (1.382), so a 6.6 kW system with the 5-year deeming period for 2026 installs earns around 45 certificates, roughly $1,700 to $1,800 at the $38 to $40 spot range at the time of writing. Perth is among the sunniest capitals, with long, dry summers that produce high yields, and it has one of the highest rooftop solar penetrations in the country. The state-level picture is on the WA page.
Battery rebate in Perth
Perth is where the state battery scheme matters most. The WA Residential Battery Scheme launched on 1 July 2025 and, at the time of writing, adds a rebate and loan option on top of the federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount. It requires an approved battery, an accredited installer and enrolment in an approved VPP. Third-party sources report that Synergy-area customers, which includes Perth, receive a lower rebate than Horizon Power customers, so Perth homes should not expect the higher regional figure. We could not confirm remaining funding, so check Energy Policy WA first.
The federal layer applies to CEC-approved, VPP-capable batteries from 5 to 100 kWh usable, up to 50 kWh eligible, one per property. The STC factor is 6.8 per kWh for 2026 installs and steps down to 5.7 on 1 January 2027 and 5.2 on 1 July 2027, with a reduced rate above 14 kWh since 1 May 2026. See the battery STC pillar.
Western Power, Synergy and the grid
Western Power is the network operator in the Perth metro area and Synergy is the dominant retailer. The grid has high rooftop solar penetration, so midday minimum demand is a recognised issue, and WA has moved to give the system operator more control over rooftop solar in emergencies. Installers should check current inverter and connection requirements with Western Power. A battery, especially one that joins a VPP, fits that environment well.
Roofs and typical systems
Perth homes typically have tile or Colorbond roofs on single-storey brick houses, with plenty of unshaded space. Systems of 6.6 kW to 13 kW are common, often with a 5 kW inverter and increasingly a 10 to 13 kWh battery. Summer heat reduces panel output at the hottest times, while the long dry season gives high annual yield. Coastal suburbs need corrosion-rated mounting.
Council and local programs
We found no Perth council solar or battery rebate we could confirm at the time of writing. Some local governments run community energy initiatives, so installers should ask customers whether one applies, and confirm in writing before quoting a local amount.
From the desk: Perth is two to three hours behind the east coast desks, and WA installers know what it is like when the person handling your claim has left for the day. A desk with a named account manager, a daily published rate and 24-hour settlement for established partners makes the time difference irrelevant. See /pricing/ and how it works.
STC trader in Perth: what to compare
An STC trader in Perth does not need a Perth office. Compare the published rate, rate lock on lodgement, fees and settlement time. The certificate trader checklist lists the questions, the battery submission guide covers battery claims, and you can start trading when ready. For the mechanism, read the STC trading pillar.
Timing a Perth job
For WA installers the cash question is sharper on battery jobs. The customer pays the invoice less the federal discount, and the state rebate and loan arrive on their own schedule, so the installer carries the certificate value until the trader pays. A battery claim also needs more evidence than a solar one, including serials, photos and VPP enrolment, and a missing item delays settlement.
Customers weighing this year against next should know the discount shrinks. The solar deeming period steps down to 4 years in 2027, and the battery STC factor falls from 6.8 to 5.7 per kWh on 1 January 2027 and to 5.2 on 1 July 2027. Perth buyers who are on the fence usually respond best to a quote that shows each line clearly, with the state scheme’s status explained honestly rather than assumed. The January 2027 explainer and the deeming period and zone ratings guide help with those conversations.
