Solar rebates on the Gold Coast: what you can claim in 2026
Gold Coast households get the federal STC discount on solar and the federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount on batteries. The Queensland Battery Booster closed in 2024 and there is no state panel rebate at the time of writing. Energex is the network, and salt air and strata approvals shape many jobs.

Solar rebate on the Gold Coast
The Gold Coast’s solar rebate is the federal STC discount. The city sits in the same mid zone band as Brisbane (rated 1.382, but check the postcode), so a 6.6 kW system with the 5-year deeming period for 2026 installs earns around 45 certificates, roughly $1,700 to $1,800 at the $38 to $40 spot range at the time of writing. The deeming period falls to 4 years in 2027 and 1 year in 2030. For state-wide detail, see the Queensland page, and for the metro neighbour, the Brisbane page.
Battery rebate on the Gold Coast
The Battery Booster has been closed since 2024, so Gold Coast homes use the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program: CEC-approved, VPP-capable batteries from 5 to 100 kWh usable, up to 50 kWh eligible, one per property, new or existing solar. The STC factor is 6.8 per kWh for 2026 installs and steps down to 5.7 on 1 January 2027 and 5.2 on 1 July 2027, with a reduced rate above 14 kWh since 1 May 2026. See the battery STC pillar.
Energex, the border and storm season
Energex is the network for the Gold Coast, so its export limits and connection rules apply. Just south of the border, Tweed Heads is in NSW on a different network with NSW scheme rules, so installers working both sides must keep each job’s postcode, zone and network clear. Storm season runs from October to March, with hail and wind, so panel ratings, mounting and photo evidence matter.
Salt air, canals and strata
The Gold Coast has a particular installation profile. Salt air near the beachfront accelerates corrosion, so corrosion-rated mounting and inverters make sense. Canal and riverfront homes often have large roofs, and many dwellings are apartments or townhouses where the owners corporation controls the roof. Typical houses take 6.6 kW to 13 kW, often with a 10 to 13 kWh battery, while high-rise buildings use shared systems. Photos of fixings taken before panels go on are worth the extra minute, because rooftop access is awkward and an audit can happen months later.
Council and local programs
We found no Gold Coast City Council rebate on rooftop solar or batteries that we could confirm at the time of writing. Customers should ask whether the council or their retailer is running a current offer, and installers should not promise a local amount without evidence.
From the desk: Gold Coast crews do plenty of volume across both sides of the border, and a mismatch in zone or network between a Queensland and NSW job is an easy mistake to make. A desk that pre-checks every claim before lodgement catches it, and one that settles in 24 hours for established partners means you are not carrying the discount you gave the customer for long. See /pricing/.
STC trader on the Gold Coast: what to compare
An STC trader on the Gold Coast does not need a Gold Coast office. Compare the published rate, rate lock on lodgement, fees and settlement time. The certificate trader checklist lists the questions, how long STC payment should take gives a benchmark, and you can start trading when ready. For the mechanism, see the STC trading pillar.
Timing a Gold Coast job
Customers weighing this year against next should know the discount shrinks: the solar deeming period steps down to 4 years in 2027, and the battery STC factor falls from 6.8 to 5.7 on 1 January 2027 and to 5.2 on 1 July 2027. The January 2027 explainer covers the detail, and the what is an STC worth note shows current market levels.
What a good Gold Coast quote shows
A clear quote shows the STC count and the value credited, the zone for the postcode, the panel and inverter ratings, the mounting hardware for a coastal environment, the Energex export limit and, for a battery, the usable capacity and federal discount. For apartments and townhouses it should also state who approved the install, because a missing owners corporation approval can stall a job after the customer has paid a deposit. Customers on the Gold Coast often ask about the rebate across the border in NSW; the answer is that the federal discount is the same, but the state layers differ, so point them to the NSW page.
