How can regional solar installers get paid for STCs fast?

Short answer

Location does not change STC settlement. Speed comes from a complete claim, a trader with fast terms and early checks on photos, forms and serials. Regional teams working across multiple sites benefit most from a standard job file and a single trader relationship.

Installers in Wollongong, the Central Coast, Townsville, Cairns, Toowoomba, Mackay, Ballarat, Bendigo and Shepparton often run small crews across large service areas. A return trip to fix a missing photo costs a day. That makes first-time claim quality the real lever on payment speed.

What actually sets the payment time

Three things: whether the claim is complete, how fast your trader checks and pays, and whether the registry flags anything. Where you live is not on that list. Our fastest STC payment answer compares terms, and why STC payment is delayed lists the common causes. The top claim rejection reasons are worth a read before your next job.

A job file for crews on the road

  • Evidence before you leave. Check photos on the device before driving off: serial labels readable, array and inverter visible, installation address identifiable. See photo requirements.
  • Signed forms on site. Get the STC assignment form signed with the owner’s name matching the address. Remote follow-ups on signatures are where regional jobs stall.
  • Right postcode, right zone. Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra, Newcastle, Wollongong, Cairns and Townsville are zone 3; Melbourne and Geelong are zone 4. Smaller towns should be checked against the CER postcode table rather than assumed. Use the STC calculator.
  • Correct deeming period. 5 years for 2026 installs, 4 for 2027.

Pick terms you can plan around

At the time of writing STC spot has been roughly $38 to $40 against a $40 clearing house ceiling. A trader that pays on a 20-day cycle ties up cash that regional installers, who carry stock for long distances, can least afford. See 20-day versus 1-day terms and payment within 24 hours. The rate on pricing is published daily and locked when a complete claim is lodged.

From the desk: Run a five-minute check at the end of each day instead of weekly. Catching a missing serial photo while the customer’s address is fresh is far cheaper than a revisit.

Batteries and VPP-ready paperwork

Battery jobs add serials, VPP capability evidence and tighter photo rules since 1 March 2026. See the battery submission guide and the battery STCs pillar.

What this means for installers

Standardise the job file, check before leaving, and use one trader that pre-checks claims. Energy Merchants’ compliance desk checks every claim and established partners are settled in 24 hours. Follow-up questions

People also ask

Does being regional slow STC payment?
No. Payment time depends on claim quality and the trader's terms, not the installation postcode.
What delays regional installers most?
Usually evidence gaps found after leaving the site: missing serial photos, unsigned forms or unreadable labels.
Can I be paid in 24 hours?
Energy Merchants settles established partners within 24 hours, with a first claim typically 48 to 72 hours. Other traders vary.
