VEU product registry

The VEU product registry is the Essential Services Commission's online list of products approved for activities under the Victorian Energy Upgrades program. A product must appear in it, where the activity requires, for the installation to create VEECs.

The VEU product registry is the list of approved products maintained for the Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program. The program is run by the Essential Services Commission. For many activities, such as heating, cooling and hot water, the product you install must appear in the registry, with the right model number, to earn VEECs.

It matters because a VEEC is created for a defined activity. The model’s registered specifications, such as energy efficiency rating, capacity or size band, are what set the certificate count. The registry also holds the product’s evidence of compliance.

In practice

Use the registry before the quote and again before the install.

  1. Search by the exact model, not the brand family.
  2. Check that the activity and any size or climate-zone conditions match the job.
  3. Note the registration details, and save a copy of the entry.
  4. Make sure the model on the invoice, the label photo and the registry entry all agree.

Models are added, updated and sometimes removed. A product that was eligible when you ordered may have changed by the time you install. Keep the dated screenshot with the job file.

For a Victorian heat pump water heater job, the registry is also where you confirm that the unit is eligible for the activity, before you look at STCs. See heat pump definition and the hot water and heat pump STC checklist. Where one install qualifies for both VEECs and STCs, veecs and stcs on the same job explains the order of operations.

Common confusion

It is not the same as the Clean Energy Regulator’s lists. STC eligibility for solar hot water and heat pumps is separate. An accredited person also does not make a product eligible. The listing does. See accredited person.

Customers sometimes assume a product on a retailer’s website is automatically VEU-eligible. It is not.

From the desk. If the model is not in the registry, do not install on the assumption it will be added. Ask the manufacturer for its status first.
