Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW)

A Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW) is the document an NSW electrician lodges to confirm that electrical work meets the required standards. For solar and battery installs it is the compliance record that supports the STC claim.

Written and checked by the Energy Merchants desk · Reviewed 3 October 2026

A CCEW, or Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work, is the NSW name for the certificate an electrician completes once electrical work is finished. It states that the work complies with the wiring rules and was tested.

Who lodges it

The licensed electrician responsible for the work is the one who lodges it, and the customer receives a copy. In NSW this is done through the state’s online eCert portal, which has been reported to become the required channel for solar and battery installs from 1 July 2026. Check the NSW government’s page for the current rule.

In practice

For an STC claim, the certificate is evidence that the installation was completed and by whom. The date, the address, the system details and the installer’s identity should agree with the written statement and the registry entry. A mismatch in the address or the installation date is one of the common causes of a query. See top STC claim rejection reasons.

Worked example

An electrician finishes a battery install on a Thursday and lodges the CCEW on Friday. The installation date on the written statement is Thursday. The registry entry says Thursday. All three agree, so nothing needs correcting at the claim.

Common confusion

CCEW is the NSW name. Other states use different terms for the same idea. Victoria uses the Certificate of Electrical Safety. See CES and COES. It is also not the installer’s CEC accreditation, which is a separate credential. See installer.

From the desk. Keep the certificate number with the job file. Our compliance desk looks for it when it pre-checks a claim.
