LGC price today: how to find the current figure

Short answer

There is no official published daily LGC price. Brokers and market reports quote it, and at the time of writing the spot range has been roughly $6 to $9 in September 2026. For a firm number, ask a trader for a quote on the day.

If you came looking for a single number, the honest answer is that there is no official “today” price for LGCs. They trade over the counter, so the figure you see depends on who is quoting, for what volume and for which delivery date. Spot LGCs were roughly $6 to $9 in September 2026, after a low near $4 in February. The longer explanation is in LGC price: what drives it.

Where to get today’s quote

  1. A certificate broker or trader. Ask for a live bid or offer for the volume you hold or need.
  2. Market reports. Several brokers publish daily or weekly price commentary.
  3. The Clean Energy Regulator. It does not set a price, but its registry shows the certificate volumes that sit behind the market.

What to ask when you get a quote

  • Is it a bid, where they buy from you, or an offer, where they sell?
  • What volume does it apply to?
  • Is it for spot delivery, or a later date?
  • What are the settlement terms and fees?
  • Are the certificates from a particular vintage or station?

Bid and offer

Like any market, there is a gap between what a buyer will pay and what a seller will accept. If you hold LGCs, you will sell at the bid. If you need them, you will buy at the offer. The difference is the cost of dealing.

Why this is not like STCs

STC pricing is anchored by the $40 clearing house ceiling, which keeps the market in a narrow band. LGCs are free floating, so a few weeks can see bigger moves. See LGC vs STC.

From the desk: if a quote looks far from the rest of the market, ask why. Vintage, volume and delivery terms often explain it.

When a quote is good enough

For budgeting, a range from a market report is plenty. For a sale, you need a firm bid that you can accept. If a broker will not put a number in writing, treat it as an indication only and keep shopping until you get one that is clear.

What this means for you

Treat any price you read online as an indication only, and get a firm quote before you commit. If you also hold small-scale certificates, see STC trading and our live pricing for those rates, and the resources hub for background.

Follow-up questions

People also ask

Is there a government LGC price?
No. Unlike STCs, LGCs have no clearing house price. The market sets it.
How often does the price change?
It can change daily. Check on the day you need it.
Is the price I see the price I will get?
Not necessarily. Brokers add a margin, and volume and timing affect the quote.
